The Burberry Check
The Burberry Check pattern was first used to line jackets in the 1920s, but it was not until the 1960s that it became the signature symbol of the Burberry brand as we know it today. When customers began to specifically request the Burberry Check pattern and the development of the brand code began.
Sudden Premonition.
In 1967, Jacqueline Dillemman – a buyer at a Paris store – had a sudden premonition while preparing a fashion show for the British Ambassador – Sir Patrick Reilly. She removed the check pattern lining from a jacket and used it to cover luggage and create a cover with a Check pattern. From there, accessories with Check motifs were born.
The Burberry Check pattern has appeared in many versions throughout the decades. Check cashmere scarves were introduced in the 1970s and have become one of the most famous accessories to this day. After that, the Check pattern was used for ready-to-wear – appearing prominently in Burberry’s campaigns throughout the 1980s and 1990s until now it has become an exclusive pattern.
